The Naskapi maintain a value system that is based in their relationship to the land. Rust is the colour of the iron ore extracted from the land. The rust circles represent steps toward the future, which grow increasingly larger to signify the importance of a longterm vision of the community that builds on previous generations and the role of education in achieving these goals. Circles are non-hierarchical and inclusive. The larger circle made up of smaller rust circles is intended to reflect the dynamic nature of cycles and the continuous interaction of the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual realities. The connection with the natural world is informing how the community plans to revive mining in their traditional territory - in balance, which is represented in the symmetry of the logo.
